Professor Gil McVean Elected a Fellow of the Royal Society

We are delighted to announce that Professor Gil McVean, a director and founder of Genomics plc and also Director of the Big Data Institute at the University of Oxford, has today been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society.

As Venki Ramakrishnan (President of the Royal Society) stated today, the new Fellows are “leaders who have advanced their fields through ground breaking work”. The Fellowship is made up of the most eminent scientists, engineers and technologists in the UK and Commonwealth and past Fellows and foreign members – since the Society’s founding in 1660 – have included Newton, Darwin, Einstein and Hawking.

Gil joins Professor Peter Donnelly, fellow director and founder, as a Fellow of the Royal Society.

It was also announced this week that Gil has been elected a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, another highly prestigious appointment.
